meet karen

Hi there! My name is Karen and I’ve had the amazing pleasure of being in this business for over twelve years. I am a second-generation Chinese American, my greatest fear is spiders, I play the piano (though I’m not terribly good at it), and my current favorite musical obsession is Hamilton. I love Diet Coke, home-made pasta, and Utes football. Movie-theatre popcorn is my favorite snack. I enjoy live music, wine, playing with Murphy, my family’s poodle, and backyard movie-nights with my husband Matt and our three daughters Sophie, Olivia, and Audrey (11 year-old twins and an 8 year-old).

In 2010, my first husband, Sean, passed away from cancer. That experience gave me a new perspective on how important photography can be. The photos that I have of our life together are among my most treasured possessions. I may have lost Sean, but I will always have those images and the beautiful memories we made. My experience with him sparked my passion for creating images of lasting memories for families. I believe families should have the kind of images that put a silly smile on your face and make you giggle to yourself while you remember how amazing those moments were.

Aside from running my business, I donate time as a volunteer photographer for Magic Hour and have written about my cancer and caregiving experiences for the Huffington Post’s Healthy Living section and for the IHadCancer blog as a chance to advocate for cancer awareness. I volunteer on my neighborhood’s arts council, in various roles at my church, and on the parent-teacher organization at my daughters’ school. I love what I do, whatever it is I happen to be doing!

I welcome clients of all ethnicities, cultures, religions, gender identities, sexualities, abilities, and body sizes. I am fully-vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19.
